Abstract

Loving the Classics. For an Erotics of Knowledge

This essay is based on the idea that the classics, even though “things of the
past” (Hegel), are nevertheless contemporary of each historical present (H.G.
Gadamer) also activating that peculiar aesthetic feeling in the recipient de-
fined as “understanding pleasure” (H.R. Jauss). The classics are therefore
texts (written, seen, heared) characterized by an inexhaustible excess of
significance generating what can be called an erotics of knowledge.
