Abstract
The Liceo Classico: Some Ideas for the Future
The crisis of the Italian Liceo classico has been stimulating various reflections
from many different sides. Is there a general disaffection with the classical
world? The recent success of several editorial initiatives and the lively debate
on classical topics along with other signs suggest that Greek and Latin still
have a future. Could the Liceo classico become more attractive without alter-
ing its motivations and fundamental historical features? And that, above all,
without creating damage? Hence the reflections gathered in the following
essay that attempts to imagine a future without betraying the past.
