                           MARIA T. BETTETINI currently teaches aesthetics at the International
                           University of Languages and Media IULM in Milan and taught Histo-
                           ry of Medieval Philosopy at the Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. She
                           directs the series Il Pensiero Occidentale at the bompiani publishing
                           house. She contributes to the Italian national newspaper «Sole 24Ore»
                           cultural pages. Her research interests centre on the ancient and me-
                           dieval roots of contemporary thought. Among her recent publica-
                           tions: Breve storia della bugia (Milan 2001, several times re-edited and
                           translated into 7 languages), Figure di verità. La finzione nel Medioevo oc-
                           cidentale (Turin 2004), Contro le immagini: alle radici dell’iconoclastia (bari-
                           Rome 2006), Distruggere il passato. L’iconoclastia dall’Islam all’Isis (Milan
                           2016).

                           MICHELE NAPOLITANO teaches Greek language and literature at the
                           Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale. He is a contributor of
                           «Atlante», the Istituto Treccani portal. He is a member of the board of
                           Directors of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.

                           GÜNTER RADDEN is professor emeritus of English linguistics at Ham-
                           burg University. He has held academic positions at the universities of
                           Newcastle, Trier, Siegen and Hamburg, was a visiting scholar at the
                           Universities of berkeley, San Diego, Osaka, bergen, and a guest pro-
                           fessor at Kraków, Warsaw and Debrecen. He has co-organized natio-
                           nal and international conferences and been invited to present lectures
                           at  universities  in  numerous  countries.  His  publications  include  3
                           books and 10 co-edited books on various cognitive linguistic issues
                           and about 65 articles. The areas covered include case grammar, pre-
                           positions, cognitive grammar, conceptual metaphor and metonymy,
                           concept of time, modality, and motivation in language. His current
                           fields of research include cognitive grammar, conceptual metonymy,
                           and motivation in language.
